Additional Information

A substantial renovation, reconstruction and extension of a detached period property on an elevated site with substantial gardens and panoramic views of the River Dee and Welsh coastline.

The design maintains the character of the original building whilst sensitively introducing a more contemporary aesthetic. The completed project addresses a poor visual connection between the property and the gardens. The internal spaces have been reconfigured to create a better flow and ensuring modern living expectations are met. The final design has no less than 7No different ways to interact with the fantastic views. These include fixed windows within the hallway framing the view upon entrance, internal balconies with voids to levels beneath, french doors to the traditional bay windows, juliet balconies to first floor bedrooms, 3.2m high corner- less bi-folding and sliding doors to a new 1.5 height open plan kitchen, dining and living area, a first-floor external terrace and extra wide dormer windows.

The design of the property was explored extensively in 3D models which allowed the owners to understand the differing character of each space and the importance of amendments to the property in section - as well as elevation – to enhance the connection to the surrounding context.
